At WitnessLA we are very happy to learn that our work has made it into the finals in two categories of this year’s SoCal Journalism Awards, which is sponsored each year by the LA Press Club.

Here’s the deal:

In the category of “Solutions Journalism,” WitnessLA’s Assistant Editor, Taylor Walker is a finalist for her important five-part series Pregnant Behind Bars.

And in the category of Online Hard News Feature, WLA Editor Celeste Fremon is a finalist for her investigative story “When LA County Probation Officials Got Repeated Reports That A Staff Member Sexually Assaulted A Teenager, Why Did They Do Nothing?”

In both instances, our reporting is up against the work of such publications as the LA Times, Reuters, the Christian Science Monitor, Capitol & Main, and more. So when we say we’re delighted to have made it into the finals, we mean it.

The winners in these and a host of other categories will be announced on Saturday, June 25, 2022, at the awards gala, which will be held at the Sheraton Universal Hotel.

We’ll let you know how it goes.
