Stupak Climbs Aboard: That’s the Ballgame

POTUS: “We did not fear our future, we shaped it.”

And again at 11:36 eastern. Meanwhile, the main Twitter guessing game is figuring out which representative with a southern accent shouted “Baby killer!” at Bart Stupak.

10:45 Eastern: HISTORY IS MADE

All the president is doing is, making clear,
that no federal funds will go to pay for abortions—which is as it has always been (and is as it should be).

Well played by all—Stupak, included, quite frankly.

I see that John Boehner is now out and out lying in saying that the health reform bill will federally fund abortions.

This is, by the way, the text of the executive order—which basically says that the Hyde Amendment, is still the Hyde Amendment, and that the president will make sure it stays very Hyde Amendment-y.

Here, by the way, is the text of the Hyde Amendment.

Read Marc Cooper’s take (written while he’s waiting at the airport.)

PS: Dear NARAL and others who are in a froth over this executive order thing:
Sisters. By saying that the President, in agreeing to enforce the Hyde Amendment (which was already in the bill) is “throwing poor women under the bus,” you undercut the right to choose we all seek to preserve. Many of us who are lifelong pro-choice advocates are nonetheless, not at all in favor of federally funding abortions. Why? Because abortion is a profound issue that involves faith and the deepest kind of perceptions of what it means to be human. You don’t want the right-to-lifers’ beliefs hog-tying you and your rights. Do not try to slap your beliefs, hand-cuff-like, on them.

Or to put it another way, STFU. You’re not helping.

  • An executive order can be recinded with the stroke of a pen, just as Obama did with those of Pres. Bush. You can’t trust the word of a lying Chicago politician.

  • A big Bravo for President Obama! I have to admit that I was thinking along with many that Obama and the Democrats didn’t have the huevos or the intestinal fortitude to get the Health Reform Bill passed. I thought he would cower down in the face of the powerful and wealthy Insurance industry and it’s lackeys in the Republican Party.
I tip my hat to the President and the Democratic Party and give a big welcome to the USA and it’s becoming a part of the civilized world.

  • Can I bet Woody real money that he doesn’t rescind the executive order?

    May I add – woohooo!

  • “BabyKiller!” on the floor of the House is a new low. I’m increasingly of the view that the GOP is pushing this thing too hard, too dishonestly and showing too much anger and hysteria over something that aids too many among the electorate. They’re beginning to look like the vulnerable party, outside of certain predictable regions where hate and bigotry are “mainstream.” We need to go hard against these characters and shine light on their bitterness, obstruction and lies. The difference between an obvious crackpot like Woody and the core of the GOP seems increasingly nil. Definitely good for Dems outside of the South, as much as it’s a pity for pockets of our politics.

  • Hate is your primary impulse when you react to others Rag, I mean Reg, what a hypocrite to even talk about others in that vein.

Hey Celeste, just noticed the title of this thread, this ballgame is in the top of the first but you keep dreaming it’s over silly girl.

I knew liberals were stupid, but this level of stupidity might be hard to top. Yet I still have faith in our thug president to nail the other side of the coffin shut for his party when he tries to pass immigration reform that people won’t want.

One term president, no doubt about it.

  • “Hate is your primary impulse…”

That’s ironic comiing from your foul, resentment-driven corner. But, yeah, I hate lying weasels. You definitely qualify.

  • Hi, I’m a student from Garhoud (United Arab Emirates)
I have to write an article about time someone spend on internet.
I asked people how much time they spend on internet.
They told me something about their visits duration of websites.
There are websites which are a guilty pleasure for many.
But there are blogs which only have a visits duration of 40 seconds.
I would like to know how much time do you spend on internet (day/week/month).
    Thanks for your help!

    Benjamin
