Charlie Beck

Charlie Beck is Confirmed as LA’s 55th LA Police Chief

An hour and a half into a meeting that started at 8:30 a.m. or so,
and after much self-congratulatory pontificating (on the part of the council members, that is) the Los Angeles City Council has confirmed Charlie Beck as the 55th Chief of the LAPD.

Congratulations Chief Charlie.

We are utterly delighted to have you at the helm of our city’s police department.

[insert sound of loud applause.]

  • It’s the royal we. Either that or I’m feeling schizophrenic today. Probably the latter.

(Although I did once try to get my son to refer to me as Professor Goddess. It never worked. But surely Professor Goddesses should occasionally speak in the plural, just for the hell of it.)

  • Chf Beck made a point (a number of good points, of course) on the prisoner re-entry issue: that all the parolees being released into the population must be helped to find good jobs or he knows of some people who will be too happy to oblige. Indeed. Tough one at a time when honest citizens can’t find work.

  • RobThomas I have no idea if you’re joking, but either way you’re statements are wrong and obnoxious.

  • I personally prefer my RB statements with some seasoning, Mavis. You too may find a few grains of salt neutralizes the bitterness.

  • Joking, about the LAPD being similar to the Nazis? Not hardly, Mavis. Study the history of Los Angeles.

Good afternoon, Gava Joe. How are things?

  • How many auto fatalities and injuries where there in Los Angeles last year? Bet you a significantly higher number than gang related murders or injuries. And I’ll bet you Beck pulls resources from traffic patrol to increase the size of gang units. And people mock Obama for making empty promises of “change”.

  • The LAPD are just like the Nazis, I have seen many many L.A. Eastside residents (especially latinos) escorted into rail cars and have the have never been seen again.

Every time a latino is escorted into a rail car, a new hipster from the Westside mysteriously appears in the Eastside. When will the rest of the world see what the Nazis, oops LAPD has been doing?

Obama needs to change this immediately before the L.A. Eastside is over-run with hipsters.

  • I wonder if Beck will do anything about the newly installed, Killer MTA rail trains disguised as mass transit for the poor victims in Boyle Heights?

  • The smog will kill more people than gang members (respiratory illness, asthma, etc). Will Chief Beck crack down on pollution in his city? Will he add resourced to traffic patrol? Cops are put on traffic patrol as a punishment. It’s not even considered law enforcement. They all want to bust gang members and drug dealers. Tell me how they’re interested in public safety when they’re not even interested in going after the things that make the public the least safe? They want to lock up poor minorities. That’s all they ever wanted to do. And that includes minority cops.

  • OK, I’ll be fair. There’s one difference between the LAPD and the Nazis: The LAPD doesn’t target Jews. Blacks and Latinos, instead.

  • Rob Thomas probably got his ass kicked by the cops once. Or maybe some old girl friend at some point found out she’d rather be with a real man and found a single cop and Robbie Boy has been on a bender since. That’s probably why he’s turned to convict love.

When someone tries to compare auto fatalities and injuries to gang fatalities and injuries you know the postings are coming from some locked down psych ward.

  • Sure Fire, you’re right. Comparing gang fatalities to auto fatalities is absurd. The number of gang fatalities doesn’t come close to auto fatalities.

BTW, it’s funny you’d accuse someone of being jealous of police because a cop took their girlfriend. Isn’t that why most cops became cops? To bust the guys who took THEIR girlfriends?

  • Sure Fire, you sound like the type of cop that lost his girlfriend to a cholo. It would explain EVERYTHING about your personality.

  • LOL! Now we have a window into SureFire’s painstaking revision process. That’s some complex thinking there, junior! Well, you get an “A” for remedial effort at least. And a gold smiley face sticker!

    Thanks for the unintentional humor.

    Blip on my computer.

Not much more we can take Celeste.

  • Okay, I deleted the repeats. But I’m glad to see STI has memorialized them for the sake of their poetic value.

Rob, please dial back the Nazi nonsense and the equivalent. It’s extremely offensive. I believe you’re better than that. Next time it goes that far, I’ll delete.

    Thank you.

  • “Blip on my computer”

A person who seems to feel compelled to lie about both the small and large stuff has a problem, don’t you think? We often call these folks pathological liars (which is a description, not a diagnosis). They lie to protect themselves, look good.
Quite often the person who has been deceived knows that this type of liar has to a certain extent deluded him or herself and is therefore to be somewhat pitied. A much more troubling person are those who lie a lot — and knowingly — for personal gain. These people may have a diagnosis called antisocial personality disorder.

  • Protect myself about a blip on my computer? Ever seen that happen with my posts before Sherlock?

    Seek medication.
