13 dead in LA, and California Report Talks About It

The statewide radio magazine, the California Report,
is running a multi-part series about what it’s like to live in the Los Angeles neighborhoods deeply affected by gang crime.

With 13 murders in LA over this past weekend-
–the majority believed to be gang-related—the series’ timing is sadly good.

Produced by NPR station KQED, with host Rachel Myrow and reported by Rob Schmitz, the show has already run two good segments that you can hear online here and here. (If you don’t have QuickTime you can download ’em here.)

The segments are quirky, compassionate and smart.
And Rachel tells me there’s more good stuff to come, so check it out.

  • In the interest of full disclosure, would you share how many of these deaths were related to Mexican gangs? It might help to determine root causes of these crimes. The Mafia is bad, not as bad, but at least the Italians came here legally.

  • Woody, ever hear of Salvatore Lucania? How about Simone Scozzari?

In the interest of full disclosure, are you implying that Mexican gangs are the “root cause” of this recent spate of murders in Los Angeles? If so, does the fact that some of the murderers may also be illegal aliens make the murders they committed worse than the murders committed by those who are here legally?
