Rainy Monday – Light Posting This Morning

WitnessLA is taking the morning off due to a personal task.

Back tomorrow in full force.

Meanwhile, 3 quick stories:

1. THE STATE OF CALIFORNIA SAYS IT HAS “FOUND” ENOUGH OF THE MISSING DRUG IN ITS LETHAL COCKTAIL TO EXECUTE 4 PEOPLE.

But the Department of Corrections folks won’t say where they got the drug? Some say that the it’s-for-us-to-know-and-for-you-to-find-out attitude might be a tad legally problematic.

Most believe this has to point to foreign producers.

The LA Times has the rest of the story.

2. WHY FOUR NAVY SAILORS CONFESS TO A MURDER AND RAPE THEY DIDN’T COMMIT?

Frontline reports this week on a story known as the Norfolk Four, which looks at how high-pressure police interrogation techniques led each of the men to confess, despite the lack of any evidence linking them to the crime.

3. TEXAS CHEERLEADER APPEALS HER RIGHT TO NOT TO CHEER FOR HER ALLEGED ATTACKER

The SF Chronicle has the story.

If you’re a high school cheerleader, you cheer for the whole team. The stars and the scrubs. The nice guys and the jerks.

But what about a player you’ve accused of raping you?

You’ve got to cheer for him too, according to a federal appeals court, because you’re really speaking for the school and not yourself….

The cheerleader and her family are arguing First Amendment rights and the case could possibly go to SCOTUS.

  • I’m in L.A. right now. I’m watching one of these good morning shows. They have a woman in Burbank, all bundled up in a big jacket and shivering, talking about bitter cold weather. Funny, I’m about 2 miles away from her exact location, and I’m sitting here with the AC on in my boxers. Hmmm.

  • I don’t know, Celeste. I’m thinking of the reporter at Hurricane Katrina who’s rowing in her boat, then you can see a guy in the background walk right through the puddle she’s wading in. I think I spotted a fail.

  • Of course I’m referring to the reporter on t.v. this morning, not you, Celeste. It was raining here last night, that’s for sure. It was raining all across California. I drove down here from Sacramento after the Raider game…4pm. Got here about 11. Worst drive ever.

  • Lee Plenty It was not simply raining here in the L.A. area. Los Angeles is being subjected to a storm and our local news stations are on storm watch and have issued severe weather alerts, the wind is blowing right NOW.

  • I’m in San Diego now, WTF. Weather’s fine here. Overcast, as always. Whatever the case, it was not “cold” in LA this morning, at least not in the northeast, where I was at and where this t.v. reporter was. It was humid, and even though I’m sure it was in the low 60s it felt like the ’70s. It wasn’t cold at all. When I left that comment up there earlier I was in shorts with the AC on. Then I see this lady on live t.v. just blocks from where I’m at, wearing an eskimo jacket and shivering….anyways.
