“If the freedom of speech is taken away then dumb and silent we may be led, like sheep to the slaughter.”
George Washington, 1783

Ever since July 13, 2015, when the musical Hamilton premiered at the Richard Rodgers Theatre on Broadway, we’ve had songs celebrating our nation’s founders—namely Alexander Hamilton, George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, and others.

In honor of President’s Day, here is “One Last Time,” the song from the show sung by the characters of George Washington and Alexander Hamilton, in musical conversation about Washington’s decision to step down. Christopher Jackson plays Washington, Lin-Manuel Miranda, of course, plays Hamilton.

And, here, in case you’ve never seen it, is the first glimpse most any of us ever had of Hamilton, when it still mostly existed in Lin-Manuel Miranda’s head.

Enjoy.
