Summer Reading List, Part 3 – Evidently, I lied

I know I promised it’d be Monday for more book recs. But, it seems I lied. It will be Tuesday, not today.

The deal is, I promised I’d wait for one more person whose book choice I won’t get until later today.

(Hey, more book recommendations are never a bad thing.)

  • Maybe while you’re asking DA Steve Cooley about his summer reading, you can ask him why he let Pedro Espinoza out of County jail, based just on his claiming he was born in the USA.

He and Baca’s Sheriffs screwed up there, yet it’s Bratton and the Mayor and Council the ignoramuses are going after, from KKFI’s Barbie & Ken to Doug McIntyre. (They’re even blaming our city, and CM Weiss, for the San Francisco Balogna shooting, but they refuse to mention the jurisdiction of fellow Republican Cooley as being in charge of the County and felonies — boy, these talk show mongers are as ignorant as they are dumb.) Even fellow overweight, provincial Republican Zine notes in his Motion that it was Baca’s dept. that messed up, and he’d like to know why. (He doesn’t and won’t mention Cooley, who he’s trying to suck up to in hopes of a political future — especially, since his attacks on Bratton and likely City Attorney Weiss have left him with no love there.)

Maybe you can ask Cooley how often his dept. “messes up” like that. Despite having hundreds of investigators and over 1000 attorneys whose JOB it is to ID illegal felons while they’re in jail, and cooperate with the appropriate federal agencies. Another major messup is letting out the husband who was in prison for trying to kill his wife — she had a restraining order on him, and a promise from Cooley’s office that they’d notify her if he ever did get out. Well, they “forgot” so he got out and killed her, being a man of his word, days before the recent election — Cooley hid it until afterwards, claiming he was home with a bad head cold.

Sure, we have some leftie and ethno-centric circle-jerks, but how about calling out for once the right-wingers who have managed to dodge responsibility and loudly, and ignorantly, throw the Democrats under the bus: Cooley, Zine, Antonovich, and their would-be pro-NRA CA candidate.

Maybe you can ask him why he’s refused to go after the known Mexican-mafia connected electeds at the South of LA cities like Cudahy, Bell etc., that he promised to when he ran 8 years ago — claiming Gil Garcetti was too soft on crime? (CityBeat looked into this a few months ago under your Sniper pal Alan Mittelstaedt, and didn’t come up with any good excuses, as I recall.)

Maybe you can ask Cooley, who demanded and got a raise making him the highest-paid public attorney other than the US Attorney General, if he ever thinks of Jamiel Shaw or that murdered wife, among HOW MANY other “mistakes?”
