I’ll be watching and blogging the debate from the Landmark Theater in West Los Angeles, at an event where the Joe and Sarah show will be followed by a play about the 1950 debate between Richard Nixon and another woman candidate, Helen Gahagan Douglas.
The play, “Don’t Blame Me I Voted for Helen Gahagan Douglas,” is by Wendy Kout and Michele Willens and my fabulous pal, Wendie Malick, is playing Douglas.
This debate-followed-by-theater night is hosted by Katrina vanden Heuvel to benefit the Nation Magazine.
(For more info or tickets, look here and here.)
As for the blogging, in that there is no Internet hook-up available inside the theater, I’ll be blogging minute-by-minute, but will not post until just after the debate ends.
See you tonight!
Hmm. There’s no mention here of debate moderator Gwen Ifill, who failed to disclose that she has written a book favorable book towards Sen. Obama and titled The Breakthrough: Politics and Race in the Age of Obama. This should be fair.
have you read the book, Woody?
“Gwen Ifill, who failed to disclose that she has written a book favorable book towards Sen. Obama”
Big Lie !!!! Her book, which is a journalistic study of black politicians of the “Obama generation”, has been publicized for months…long before she was agreed on as moderator.
Why does Woody insult us with this crap ?
Because that’s all he has.
So, how much do we think the Ifill thing will affect anything?
And how disingenuous is it that this issue is being brought up by the McCain camp now amidst the flood of bad PR about Palin due to her jaw-dropping katie Curic interviews, and the fact that a whole swath of conservatives are bailing her?
Hey, since it’s become common knowledge among conservatives that Negroes, via CRA, caused the financial meltdown, isn’t it obvious that the only thing standing between the American People and Sarah Palin’s Awesomeness is a Black “B”.
I’m getting very nervous about just how high the sewage and anger over lost “cultural entitlement” is going to rise post-election.
The funny thing about this is that Ifill is about as tepid and “polite” a journalist as one could find – I find her competent but boring. Disappointing even, with rare exceptions as when she called out the white boys who kept yukking it up with that prick Imus long after he called Gwen “the cleaning lady.” (Although even that was AFTER the “nappy hos” thing had already sunk him. It’s pretty clear that if a black, female journalist played it as unhinged and sloppy as, say, a Chris Matthews, they’d be lucky to have a gig at the Hoboken Times, or some such. So Gwen is who she is. Smart, decent enough as a “mild-mannered reporter” and always displaying her version of “class”, but clearly the last person in the world who deserves the wrath of the hatemongers as “biased.” As Randy points out, this is all they’ve got left.)
Uh Oh! Palin has been cram jamming for the debate at McSame’s digs in Sedona Ariz.
Sedona (very beautiful place) is the destination for many of the worn out middle class yuppies who take the little pink jeep tours and visit the wooooo!, many “Vortex” locations in the area. At the Vortex centers they renew their energy and spirituality and can be found crying and walking around in a daze after supposedly getting their minds unsprung.
A weird sight and totally unscientific and unproved but it’s a huge business in Sedona. And after these Rubes get the change of life vortex treatment they are to be seen walking around Sedona visiting the two or three Thomas Kincaid Art Gallery’s (where’s the vomitorium!), and purchasing the phoney Gay Indian Warrior sculpture or the crystal healing centers and other new age artifacts.
Joe Biden better watch it cause Palin might have loaded up on energy at one of the power spot vortex’s in Sedona.
Beautiful post as always Woody. Keep writing. Just keep writing. As down as you feel, as bleak as your outlook is, keep writing. Just keep writing. It is important for you, and for your readers. Someone pass me the Advil.
Woody Stop Dispensing Your Herman Munster’s Advice And Comments to us. Stop Disgracing yourself. Have Some Dignity.
If Ifill was on a jury and it became known that she concealed such relevant information that impairs her objectivity and independence, the judge would toss her off.
Her book, to be released on Inauguration Day, even has Obama in the title and is hoped to be a big seller to his supporters. So, at a minimum, she has a financial interest in Obama winning the election. She should have disqualified herself so that there wouldn’t be this controversy.
While this issue has to do with fairness, I’m not surprised that reg whipped the race card, as little as it is, out of his drawers.
Do not accuse Woody of being out of campaign tricks. When Palin trips up tonight on the “is the earth flat” question, Woody will suspend his retirement again and post that Ifill used that famous Katie Couric style hard nose “gotcha journalism”.
Why does Woody insult us with this crap ?
Glenn Greenwald answers.
The Right’s two-pronged religion of rage and self-pity
If Ifill was on a jury and it became known that she concealed such relevant information that impairs her objectivity and independence, the judge would toss her off.
A simle question that should get a yes or no answer: have you read the book, Woody?
Randy, the book has not been published, but Ifill has discussed its contents, expressing favor with the Obama campaign.
Plus, just to make reg’s day, it’s not enough that she is a liberal journalist; she’s also black, so you know she’s for Obama.
Here’s a video showing Obama supporters picking up black men on the street and taking them to the polls, automatically knowing which way they will vote.
“Barack! I mean, I want him to do his thang. You know, do his thug thizzle. You know. That’s how I like it to be. You know.”
Okay, I’m going back into retirement for today.
Randy, the book has not been published, but Ifill has discussed its contents, expressing favor with the Obama campaign.
Bullshit. She hasn’t written the section on Obama yet. So if the book hasn’t been published and you obviously haven’t read it and the section on Obama hasn’t been written, you have absolutely nothing on which to base your criticism. N-O-T-H-I-N-G.
You guys are just trying to work the refs because your guy is tanking and his VP choice is an imbecile.
Ifill’s book and the subject matter was public knowledge before she was chosen to moderate the debate. She concealed nothing.
Out of Retirement:
In its online description of the book, Doubleday says that Ifill “surveys the American political landscape, shedding new light on the impact of Barack Obama’s stunning presidential campaign and introducing the emerging young African American politicians forging a bold new path to political power.”
The host of PBS'”Washington Week” and senior correspondent on “The NewsHour” said she did not tell the Commission on Presidential Debates about the book.
Gwen Ifill’s record as a journalist is well-known, her book was public knowledge before she was chosen as the debate moderator and if the McCain campaign had wanted to they could have rejected her. This is an example, at best, of just how sloppy and disorganized this MaverWreck is. Or it’s just more “Waaaahhh – Life Isn’t Fair!!!” from Our Hero. What a sour old weasel. I don’t know whether the self-pity is more repugnant or the narcissism. This creep acts like he’s too good to even shake Obama’s hand and greet him civily in the Senate. Total fucking jerk. McPalin is the fitting symbol of contemporary conservatism – a mean-spirit joined at the hip to ignorance and incompetence.
McCain didnt reject Ifill. Reason being, McCain can then accuse Ifill of “favoritism”,”gotcha journalism”, and such if Gidget McCain flops on her ass tonight.
Somebody please explain to Woody what publisher marketing is.
I would but Im waiting for Sarah Palin to read from her notes how to make Wasilla Baked Alaska.
Nuk You Lar and later, YCH
Oops, Darn it.
Forget that Randy. Im not going to answer your questions.
So how does Sarah Palin get away with not answering most of the questions? We shall see.
