A.G. Nail Biter Central: Cooley Now Takes Lead Over Harris

Well, it ain’t dull. As of this morning, Steve Cooley has pulled ahead in the still-being-counted race for Attorney General.

Here’s the link to the Secretary of State’s site so you can follow along.

  • You got that right Celeste, never a dull moment. This probably won’t be decided for weeks, if not months.

  • Why hasn’t any comment been made about Steve Cooley’s apperance? We had plenty of comments about the ugly Meg Whitman.

  • Good point, WTF. It seemed as if we were beyond sexism in politics a couple of years ago, until suddenly Sarah Palin came on the scene and her supporters started talking about how “hot” she is. The word “MILF” was thrown around….I can’t stand that word and refuse to to breakdown the initials. And, again, these were her supporters. Demeaning her, basically parading her as a sex object and nothing more, taking pride in her obvious lack of intellect or historical perspective, and just basically championing her looks to make up for it. Unfortunately for Meg Whitman, she found herself on the other end of that stick, due to her unattractiveness. It’s so unfortunate, but it’s just politics.

  • Short aside —
The link to the CA SOS is really cool. I love reviewing which parts of the state voted for who and what. Can’t help but noticing Alpine county. Apparently its a liberal oasis along a predominantly red CA-NV border. There’s only about 550 – 600 voters, but they went blue or liberal on just about everything.

  • Liberals about her looks just the same as conservatives did Rob. Why would you even put up something so blatantly false?

  • Sure Fire, just saying, it’s on both sides. Did the parading of Sarah Palin’s attractiveness two years ago help or hurt Whitman? They got the ball rolling, got America EXPECTING to see attractive female candidates.

  • IF Harris loses, you can bet your bottom dollar it was her postion on the death penalty that cost her the election.

Left or right, right or wrong, when you have ideology that isn’t in line with majority of the electorate it’s going to cost you a decent percentage of the vote.

  • Cooley has a 36,800 vote lead as of 5:42pm on Sunday.

I don’t think the death penalty was the defining issue between Harris and Cooley. I think a lot of voters were uncomfortable with Kamala’s overall attitude to criminals who she sees as victims of society.

To some extent Kamala has a point, many of those born into dysfunctional gang-infested poorly educated single parent families are condemned (or destined) to a life of crime. But understanding the problem and solving it are two very different issues.

The Harris solution is to release “non-violent” offenders in increasing numbers, and decriminalize the non-violent crimes they commit upon release so as to avoid the “revolving door” that she complains of. Both moves would certainly help the budget situation, but the cost to society is another matter. Just remember the price paid by Lily Burke.

  • I don’t think so, ATQ. I think Cooley did a better job of bashing her than she did of bashing Cooley. If she loses, she lost by not fighting fire with fire.

  • In a perfect world people would vote on issues. They don’t. Just like in retail, they spend their money on the best advertising. Time proven fact.

    ……………

Which, of course, isn’t as bad as the Cooley campaign made it out to be. Like I said, they just sold more Sham Wows. If you really follow the money trail in this election, it wasn’t about values or beliefs, it was about advertising.

  • Rob,
Here we go again. To say that in the elections where we like the results that the voters paid attn. to the issues and got it right……and then when we don’t like the results they didn’t pay attn. and got duped, doesn’t make sense.

It looks the same electorate that elected JB Governor and Boxer to the Senate might very well elect Cooley AG.

While they were standing there in the voting booth, they didn’t get struck by lightning and get stupid in the time it took to get from the Governor’s box to the AG’s box.
    lol.

    Issues matter.

Think about it. If 1%, remember, that’s only one out of a hundred people that would have otherwise voted for Harris, but were alienated by the fact that Harris won’t EVER seek the death penalty, that will make Cooley the AG.

One percent of a swing in this race is enough to make the difference. In a state where the electorate has voted to have the death penalty. Not hard to figure out at all.

  • it wasn’t about values or beliefs, it was about advertising.
    ****************************************
lol. Whitman and Fiorina spent how much on advertising?

    Didn’t matter. They lost.

There you go again cherry picking the results you don’t like and saying the people were duped in only the results you don’t like.

If a conservative were to say:
“You damn right the CA. voters got duped. You damn right they are stupid enough to just go for the better campaign and not pay attn. to the issues. That’s how Brown, Boxer and all the other liberals in CA. got elected”

    Would that conservative be correct?

But you think they’re correct when it comes to Harris/Cooley?

    Same electorate.

    Come on man.

  • Raiders will go nowhere with their qb Rob. I actually like watching them because I have Janakowski and McFadden on a couple of my fantasy teams, but Campbell is scary every time he puts the ball up and he seems to never get rid of it when he should.

    Da Bears!!
