Topanga Days (Wooooo-hooooo!!!!!!!!)

Today in the LA Times Opinion section Meghan Daum writes
about her irritation with Boomers—otherwise sometimes known to her and her Gen X friends as “moronic aging hippie posers.” (And I’m sure Meghan meant that in the nicest possible way.)

The timing of Daum’s (very entertaining) column
is perfect since, along with the more serious issues that Monday commemorates, Memorial Day Weekend is also known as the weekend when hill-dwelling moronic hippie posers of all ages celebrate themselves—and anything else within reach—at the fabulous and reasonably eccentric event known as Topanga Days. (Here’s a link to the schedule and other info.)

I wrote about Topanga Days in more detail last year. But if you live in LA and you’ve never been, y’all are missing out. (And I’ve got the photos to prove it. Fortunately they’re not of me but of friends and of the beautiful young women I’ve known since they were toddlers.)

Okay, gotta go. There’s much in the way of tie-dye, hair garlands and drape-y chiffon I must put on. B-bye! (Yes, we actually have designated Topanga Days outfits. You got a problem with that??!)

  • Celeste, is that you flashing the peace sign in a photo above? Those choppers look similar to your smile. The stomach coming out of the white jeans at the right could be mistaken for mine–at the moment.

  • Nope. I wish! The be-feathered woman flashing the peace sign is a lovely friend of mine named Patrice Winter. (I’m delighted to be mistaken for her.)

  • A few cute guys in the bottom photo, more Coachella than hippie Woodstock. Too bad I was busy elsewhere~
