Criminal trials are about the law, of course, and hopefully about truth. They are also about theater, and about narrative, specifically the daily push and pull to determine who can manage to control that narrative.
On Day 3 of the federal trial of three present and former members of the Los Angeles County Sheriffs Department, two of the moments that seemed to get the jury to sit up and take notice, may or many not have had much to do with the law, but they each planted an interesting flag in the trial’s narrative.
On Monday, we’ll be back with the full story on these and other high points of Thursday and Friday’s court dramas.
So stay tuned.
Even though I’m looking forward to the update on Monday……I won’t be surprised or shocked at information that you provide.
As another blogger stated a few columns ago, WLA is more informative (even within our own circles) than briefing at any station or facility in the Sheriff’s Department.
Unfortunately this latest edition of barbaric activity by deputies to be tried in court is just another example of so-called supervision and leadership in the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department. This was standard procedure and any truthful former or retired deputy can attest to this.
The leadership in criminal enterprises surpasses the leadership & supervision in LASD by miles. It is outright embarrassing. More power to Sheriff McDonnell in his quest to clean up LASD.
Many of the good leaders on the department decide to leave because of the double standards and lack of support from executives. The unethical standards and pay to play environment. There are many within the executive ranks that are doing the same thing, why? because that was the example given to them. So how do you change the culture? Tell them it is time to go, just like they do with Deps/Sgts/Lts/Capts. Maximum age should be 60 no exceptions.
@3. Whatever direction the Sheriff’s Department is going in under the new Sheriff, the bottom line is that…….Good, bad or in different, you better walk the line and get use to it.
Blowing up the blog with pseudo remedies and wishful thinking along with retirees reminiscing about old times won’t do a damn thing. Let it go and allow time and reform take its course.
Meanwhile lookit what’s happening to the OIR (remember them?) down in Orange County:
