Immigration & Justice LAPD Police

MacArthur Park – The Sequel

Okay, at 5:00 pm today, marchers and other interested folks (meaning expect the media to be there in battalion-level strength), will be gathering at the Immanuel Presbyterian Church on Wilshire Blvd. and marching to MacArthur Park for a candlelight vigil. (The list of organizers includes the usual suspects among local immigrant rights groups, but also a couple mainstream entities such as the LA Catholic Archdiocese. (Well, their Social Justice Committee, anyway.)

To say that the LAPD is ready for this march and prepared to behave PERFECTLY
is to understate the situation by…..a lot. As one highly placed command staff person put it to me, “This will be the best policed, most restrained march in history…”

Frankly, I suspect it’ll turn out to be a rather over-hyped event.

(I’ll be down at UC Irvine teaching all day, so if I’m wrong, and something wild and woolly happens, be sure and let me know.)

  • Just in case, pack a pistol.

Just curious, how in the world does something like this get organized and the word get out? No one ever tells me of protest marches–especially if they occur during the hours that most people are on their jobs trying to support their families. Who goes to these marches?

Take your journalism students on a field trip to the park. It would be one of the better lessons that they could have. I wouldn’t be surprised if the press outnumbered the marchers.

What a complete waste of manpower of the three P’s–police, press, and protestors. Oh, but there is a “P” that likes this–politicians who pander to these public parodies in the park.

  • I want to know how much has all these marches cost the taxpayers of Los Angeles? It’s not as if they have ONE march per year. They have had numerous marches and another one is coming in June. This has to be costing a fortune. San Bernardino just gave a bill for over $17,000 for those protests we should do the same here.

Antonio and Fabian should be ashamed of themselves. They’re supporting illegals who have destroyed this city and made it look like Tijuana. The illegal vendors are making CASH tax free and hurting legal businesses. The youth in LA don’t have jobs because all the illegals are getting hired at low wages, there’s no affordable housing because the illegals have taken up tons of apts. with 4 other families with them causing blight. Forget about getting the health care once available in low income neigbhorhoods because the illegals ruined that and don’t even get me started on the overcrowding in our schools because of the illegals. I hope the people with major bucks don’t donate to either of these clowns next time they run.

  • I’d vote for Celeste as the Director of Homeland Security. Although, she’s probably over qualified.

I dunno. Snark warning: Maybe they should just let the reporters and the LAPD duke it out and let the marchers stay home – or, keep score.

Hopefully, it is over-hyped and **everyone** packs their “inside voices” and “sunday school manners” when they go.
