Calling All WLA Commenters….Ideas and Suggestions Needed!

Logan Pass in Glacier Park, MT

Next week I’m headed out on a road trip,
eventually ending up in West Glacier, Montana.

While I’m away, I’ll still be blogging (although some days may be lighter than others). But when I’m actually on the road , passing through various towns and cities, I thought it might make for an interesting mobile blogging opportunity.

Thus, as I travel, I plan to accost (in the nicest possible way) random people and ask them each three questions. Then I’ll take their photos, and put the answers to the questions plus pictures up on the blog each night. That way I can get a quirky day-to-day snapshot of different corners of western America and its inhabitants as I mosey around.

Or something like that.

Now here’s where I need help:

What three questions should I ask?
(Perhaps I should have six on hand, just in case.)

I don’t want anything obviously partisan
or a question that attempts to solicit a partisan response.

For instance, I don’t want to ask folks who they favor for president. But, I wouldn’t mind asking: If America had no choice but to ruled by a king (or queen)—an absolute monarch—and the choice was left up to you, whom would you crown?

Or….I could just ask:
In your opinion, what’s the best rock and roll song of all time and why?

Anyway, I’m sure you have some better ideas.

So, how about it? What do you think I should ask?

All ideas welcomed and appreciated.

  • You can ask them what they think of L. A. (glamorous Hollywood or scary gang stuff, “lifestyles of the rich and famous” or smog and traffic), and if they mention problems, what they’d do about it. (In Georgia, I was told the gang solution would be easy: “We all have guns, and we’d just shoot ’em.) Wonder how the western folk stack up on your “social justice” scale.

  • Depending on the size of the town you drove through you might solicit a blank stare if you asked your rock and roll question, but could get a novella if you asked, What was the best country western song of all time?

This request of yours isn’t as simple as it looks. I’ll give it some thought. An idea of the general route you’ll be following might be helpful. Ie, lots of cities and 6 lane highways, or small towns and two lane back roads?

Any question I can think of *could* be construed as having political overtones depending on where the person you ask thinks you’re from.

  • Good ideas, Maggie.

Here’s one: if you were forced to movie to another country, which country would you chose and why? (You can assume language isn’t a problem if you think that’d make the answers more interesting.)

  • Which would you rather watch–the World Series or a Presidential debate?

Do you believe that the press is biased and, if so, in which direction?

How much wood could a woodchuck chuck if a woodchuck could chuck wood?

  • 1. What has been the biggest change for good that you’ve seen in your life?

    2. What has been the biggest change for ill that you’ve seen?

    3. What mot worries you about your kid’s future?

    4. Are you feeling in control of your life?

  • Paris Hilton is planning a new reality show. Would you have her live in your house?
This time she is not only bringing Nicole but Britney Spears.

  • Great ideas, guys. RLC and Maggie and Mavis in particular. Keep ’em coming.

Woody and Poplock, if things get boring, I’m whipping out the Paris Hilton and the World Series questions, for sure.

I’m hideously cold ridden at the moment, so I’m putting off leaving for another day. So please keep thinking.

  • You could ask “How do you think America is perceived in other countries”. The answers could get partisan, but it’s a bipartisan question.

  • What’s the one thing you want to accomplish that you haven’t done yet? f/u: What’s in the way?

What’s the one thing you’ve left unaccomplished – and, likely won’t accomplish – that ‘bothers’ you the most when you think about it? f/u: Why does it ‘bother’ you?
