Life and Life Only Prison

Prison Glass…..and Old Fashioned Storytelling

Be sure to read the first of the three part series that began in Sunday’s LA Times
about the woman lawyer who met and married the Aryan Brotherhood shotcaller while he was in prison serving a life sentence. (PS: the locked-up bad ass also happened to be the woman’s first husband’s brother.)

It may or may not sound promising on the surface but, judging from the first installment, it’s a good tale skillfully reported and well told. Okay, the prose occasionally veers into the turgid, and there are one or two strange moments in editing, but those are teensy quibbles. Mostly it is a wildly engaging piece of good old fashioned storytelling backed by a ton of in-depth research and reporting, all of which you’d be foolish to miss.

  • I came out here to Kansas over 20 yrs ago, I know lady teachers who would ride herd on 30 high-schoolers, on meth, hormones, and whatever is fashionable, even ambition and persuade the best out of them. I know women who jump on wild-eyed quarter horses and coax them at a gallop around barrels faster than the next rider. I know ladies who will break 6″ ice so the stock can drink and shovel a path through a foot and a half of snow so the mailperson can deliver the damned bills. I know some ladies out here. They can be misinterpreted, taken for slow/ cumbersome, but it’s mostly them taking time to size you up. Rest assured, because we’re rural we aren’t dumb. We can afford to ascertain a direction because we have the space to build a concensus.. Sadly we’re a red state. For that I apologize.

I have to laugh when I think of this Kansas Gal bringing her Aryan Brother husband home to meet the folks, because you see, this is the birthplace of the Mother of the first Black President of these United States. We don’t take that lightly. There’s documented evidence pointing to the fact that Barack was conceived in the Jayhawk State. I can’t quite cite the site, but we’re working on it.

In closing bear in mind there’s been some queries as to “what’s wrong with Kansas?” I can only respond with , “Nuttin”..

P.S. Boy I got off point. Are you going to link the next two enties of the LAT story? Next entry is tommorrow? Come on now.
