Sometimes It’s Just About the Music

I loved that Radiohead was backed by the USC drums and brass and all that…(Go, tuba guys!)

And, yes, that Lil’ Wayne youngster is quite cute and talented (especially when temporarily backed by the glorious Allen Toussaint).

Ditto, Coldplay. (Hey, even their girlfriends are famous.)

But it was great to see Robert Plant and Alison Krauss win the Grammy’s Album of the Year for the T-Bone Burnette-crafted Raising Sand. Was it a CD that broke boundaries? Nope. It was just really good music, played by some very, very good musicians.

B-B King rocked. M.I.A. was cooly gutsy singing with the boys in her see-thru, about-to-deliver (literally) mini dress.

And all praise belongs to Jennifer Hudson who, after a year that would leave many of us unable to speak or walk around upright, gave a blow-the-doors-off performance—accompanied skillfully by our own local and terrific West Angeles Church of God in Christ Mass Choir.

Music is a good thing. Even glitzy, mainstream music awards shows.
