David Brown, writing for Rolling Stone, got it right in his obit for Gregg Allman:
“The question ‘Can white men sing the blues?’ has been debated for decades, especially once earnest white kids began taking a crack at the music in the 1960s. But in the case of Gregg Allman, no one ever raised the question.”
Allman, who was 69, died on Saturday at his home in Savannah, Ga.
The Allman Brothers were one of many (among countless others) who proved that no one has a copyright to playing the blues.
My first concert, 1969, the Forum, Duane and Dickie front and center, I was 13, can you imagine?
Legend…
Hammond B3 & Rock n’ Roll—can’t get better.
The Hammond B3 was initially {and still} rocking the Pentecostal Churches then followed by Rock n’ Roll. Both genres were electrified with the B3.
Jim…. My first concert too!!! About 12-13 at the Greek with my parents.
