Just getting home with all the flooding, trees down and slides has been challenging.
(Note to self: do not, repeat, do not leave Topanga in the middle of a nasty rainstorm because objects will always tend to block your return. But of you must leave said house, bring a damned chainsaw with you. )
I say this after my Sunday night experience when, after finding one route home on Topanga Canyon Blvd. blocked by flooding and a slide, I found the alternate route—Old Topanga Canyon—entirely blocked by a rather large toppled tree. After about 45 minutes of waiting for the LA County persons who were supposedly going to show up to clear the roadway, the guy in the car behind me suddenly realized he had a small but wonderfully functional Sears chainsaw with him in his vehicle. The man and his son trotted down the road and asked the California Highway Patrol officer if he had any objection to them taking a whack at the leafy obstacle. The CHP guy, who looked a bit damper than he would have ideally preferred, had no objections at all. Et voila! L’arbre c’est fini!
So, anyway, stay dry. Back when So Cal Ed deems it.
