Good morning, WitnessLA readers, For much of the world, today is Giving Tuesday. In the world of non-profit journalism, however, Dec. 3 is Giving Newsday — a once-a-year opportunity to support nonprofit news organizations like WitnessLA, that help to preserve our shared democracy. In recent weeks we have been reminded that, in the year ahead, the need for independent news organizations is going to be more essential than ever. Though WitnessLA is a small, nonprofit news outlet, our readers know we are unstoppable when it matters most. If we find a topic we believe is critical to investigate, we won’t go away. For example, it’s become very clear that, if we hadn’t launched our ongoing investigative series, “Deconstructing the Conviction of Mark Ridley-Thomas,” no one else would have done this work. This week we’ll publish Part 13 of this vital series. We will also soon have Part 2 of “The Whistleblower,” a disturbing series about the courage of Sgt. Rosa Gonzalez, and what it has cost her to blow the whistle on wrongdoing at the LA County Sheriff’s Department. And earlier this year, we published Part 3 of the award-winning “Punishing Families” series focused on our local child welfare system. Again, No other LA County news outlet is reporting on this issue. Part 4 will arrive in early 2025. Yet, our independence means that we rely on people like you to stand with us in declaring that truth matters, that no one is above the law, and that justice must apply equally to everyone. So before December 31, please give whatever you can to help us keep investigating — and your donations of up to $1000 will be doubled by NewsMatch! OR if you want to give us a monthly donation, NewsMatch will double those too. Truly, any size donation helps! $10, $20, $50, $100 … $1000.Donate to WitnessLA. I just plopped down $250.00 from my credit card in appreciation for the spotlight WLA has shown on the travails of Rosa Gonzalez, whose story definitely needs to be told.
Thanks, Celeste.
Editor’s Note:
Thanks SO very much, Rackkasan! And NewsMatch will double that amount!
We’ll have another chapter in Rosa G’s story soon.
May your holidays be happy ones.

You van have Deconstructing MRT part 100…dude is still a guilty slime bag. Got what he deserved.
Of course skippy is correct, but the reporting speaks more to Celeste’s process and motivations than anything related to the case. Very basic worldview rationalized through a ridiculously convoluted story.
