I saw this story on MSNBC over the weekend, and thought it a good example of people standing up to the abomination that is Fred Phelps and his followers.

Happy Veterans day, everyone. And remember if you see a soldier today, tell them, “Sorry. I’m sorry your service is being taken advantage of by the war industry and the Israel lobby”.

Brave of you to put up something by the Dixie Chix but it fits!
I’m sure Lee and anyone who copies his advice will be VERY popular with any true vets. Not just the war industry but “The Israel lobby” pushed us into Afghanistan & Iraq, huh?
On a mundane note, it’s nice that restaurants like Sizzler & Applebee’s are offering free meals to any vets w/ an hon. discharge and a guest, so if anyone’s out there and the lines aren’t long…Oh, and be sure to apologize to any other vets you see on behalf of our “America is just as bad as the worst” of the worst, for the pernicious military industrial complex which looks for gratuitous wars to fight to justify its existence and for the Israel lobby which yanks our chains. (I’ve GOTTA just ignore Lee like I usually do SF and let them just annoy each other.)
Fred Phelps exemplifies the worst of what our soldiers fight to defend, but still, he has the freedom to do what he does thanks to them. As we do to tell him what we think of his antics.

Sorry, been trying to post the link all afternoon.
November 11th, 2010 at 4:39 pm
So what do I do? Forget to paste the link, of course! What an idiot.
November 11th, 2010 at 4:39 pm
There’s nothing more pathetic on a blog than saying you’re ignoring someone while responding to their points in 3rd person. It’s pathetic, actually. But you’re entertaining, SBL. I’ll give you that.

No Hot Tuna at Merlefest next year. That sucks.
Oh, and the link will not post. WLA allergic to tinyurl, perhaps?

Jim, it was snatching sbl’s and atq’s yesterday and yours today. Hopefully I’ve improved things, but just shoot me an email if you have further trouble.
November 11th, 2010 at 5:15 pm
I’m kind of enjoying the thought that I’ll have inconsequential posts floating around in cyberspace for perpetuity
November 11th, 2010 at 5:17 pm
“Sorry. I’m sorry your service is being taken advantage of by the war industry and the Israel lobby”.
What? No mention of the latest “war monger” to occupy the White House?
November 11th, 2010 at 5:26 pm
SBL, I love the Dixie Chicks. They’re not just pretty girls with nice country voices and a good PR machine. The two sisters, Emily Robison and Martie Maguire, are multi-talented musicians and Natalie Maines has a kick ass beautiful voice that is entirely distinctive in any context.
I’ve always been astonished that a single remark made by Maines 10 days before Shock and Awe, would make them the target of such vitriol and hatred. But people are weird sometimes.
It’s a pity they haven’t toured in four years. Hope they do again soon.
PS: Jim, I LOVE the Weston Missouri story of the town (with lots of help from “neighbors” as far as California) standing up to protect the mourners against the vile Phelps people. Thanks for that!

Yeh, ATQ, it’s all Obama. The whole campaign to go into war with Afghanistan and Iraq was Obama’s brain child all along. You’re just a fountain of knowledge.
November 11th, 2010 at 7:19 pm
lol. Nope. Not a fountain of knowledge at all. Never claimed to be. Just pointing out how you are now a patriotic American and decided not to badmouth your Commander In Chief’s decision to continue our operations in Iraq and Afghanistan.
November 11th, 2010 at 7:26 pm
Sure. The right’s plan since Obama’s inauguration is to pretend he started every single bad thing that’s happening right now, and you just added another installment to it. Of course you’re going to back pedal now and pretend you were merely saying the he’s “continuing” the war. that’s not how you put it the first time. You said he was a war mongerer occupying the white house. You made it sound as if he started the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq. Next you’re going to tell us you’re a Democrat and you voted for him. Everyone knows what you’re doing.
November 11th, 2010 at 7:30 pm
tell them, “Sorry. I’m sorry your service is being taken advantage of by the war industry and the Israel lobby”.
I mean seriously, on Veteran’s Day? You can’t hold your tongue and keep from making a hyper partisan political statement on Veteran’s Day? You can’t just say “thanks for your service” and honor someone who serves/served their country?
You would rather make a politcal statement than simply thank them for their service?
It’s evidently more important to you to spread your political message than to honor our veterans and service personnel.
Sad. VERY sad.
For you, not them.
November 11th, 2010 at 7:52 pm
I’m not going to participate today in your game Rob. I apologize to evreyone for getting caught up in it already.
I JUST WANT TO SAY THANK YOU VERY MUCH TO ALL OF OUR SERVICE MEN AND WOMEN AND VETERANS.
I AM GRATEFUL TO YOU!!!!!!!
November 11th, 2010 at 10:15 pm
You know Rob/Lee would not have the cajones to say “I’m sorry your service is being taken advantage of by the war industry and the Israel lobby”, to any Marine’s face, but he is brave at the keyboard.
November 12th, 2010 at 1:44 am
Veterans day is the best day to give condolences to our troops for how they’re being used by Israel and the war industry right. They have been since September of 2001. It’s sad, and noteworthy. Should be recognized, as a national day of mourning.
November 12th, 2010 at 1:46 am
WTF, your entire blog history consists of nothing but comments you would only dare say at your keyboard. Go into Boyle Heights and say some of the things that you say about Mexicans on blogs. There’ll be enough sliced coconut to go around for everyone.
November 12th, 2010 at 1:53 am
I saw some high up Israeli wishing the American troops happy Veterans day on CNN earlier. Fitting. American troops have been doing his government’s bidding for a decade now. I guess he does owe them a thank you.
