Listener, thanks for the recommendation. At your suggestion, I scooted over and read a few things of Buchanan's at the NY Times, and he's really a delight. The book sounds quite cool.

(But why is he only doing book appearances the Bay area and not in LA????? The nerve!)

Hey, Celeste. Related to nothing, except perhaps a mutual interest in social psychology... There is a blogger for the NY Times by the name of Mark Buchanan who is a physicist. He's been guest-blogging for the past month under a piece entitled Our Lives as Atoms. I've encountered these arguments before in courses about regional economics. It's pretty interesting stuff. His stint with the NY Times has concluded, but he has his own blog at http://thesocialatom.blogspot.com/ . The reason I mention this is he is doing a book promotion in your corner of the world to advance his book "The Social Atom: Why the Rich Get Richer, Cheaters Get Caught, and Your Neighbor Usually Looks Like You."

He notes: "And if you do live in or around the Bay Area, please come and say hello. I'll be at Xerox Parc on June 7 giving a talk in their Forum series, then at The Commonwealth Club on June 8, and at Kepler's Bookstore in Menlo Park later on the same day."

Thought you might find it interesting, if you have nothing better to do. Riiight... Still. It's an area you might find of interest. Social justice oftens follows social psychology.
