The Fire This Time

May 9th, 2007 by Celeste Fremon

In Los Angeles, the real fire season traditionally doesn’t start until September.
It looks like it’s going to be a long, dry scary-ass summer.

L.A. must be nature’s paradise with earthquakes, mud slides, and wild fires. At least in Georgia we confine our major fires to swamp land. Thank goodness there’s the Mississipi River between us to act as a firebreak.

It sounds as if the L.A. fire is due to arson, which makes me livid because firefighters must put their lives at risk to stop a fire started by some sicko or anarchist.

You should have been here in ‘92 Woody. We had mudslides, floods, fires, everything but the locusts! And topped it off with the Rodney King Riots. And two years later the not so big one (Northridge Quake). Every few years the hills are burning – just like it says that Doors song “LA Woman”:

“I see your hair is burning, hills are
    filled with Fire.
If they say I never loved you, you know they
    are a liar”

Boy those guys had this town down cold!
